Metso Outotec wins NALCO bauxite grinding contract

India’s National Aluminium Company (NALCO) has selected Finnish mining operations and technology firm Metso Outotec for a contract worth up to € 15 million (US$17.8 million) to install a bauxite grinding package at its Damanjodi Alumina Refinery in Odisha state.

Metso Outotec will supply two ball mills with a capacity of 434 tph each, as well as apron feeders, agitators, slurry pumps, instrumentation. It will also carry out the basic design of bauxite silos and further engineering.

“We are extremely happy to continue our co-operation with NALCO. This is the third order we have received for their current expansion project in Odisha. The other two orders include two energy-efficient flash evaporation plants and two alumina calciners along with a hydrate filtration plant,” explains Kamal Pahuja, President, Middle East and India at Metso Outotec.

The Alumina Refinery is located at Damanjodi, Odisha, approximately 14 KM from the bauxite mine at Panchpatmali. The mined-out bauxite is transported from captive mine to refinery by a 14.6 KM long single-light multi-curve 1,800 tonnes per hour (TPH) capacity cable belt conveyor. The alumina produced is transported to aluminium smelter at Angul (Odisha) and to Vizag (Andhra Pradesh) port by rail.

In March, Metso Outotec signed a €13 million contract for twin flash evaporation alumina plants With NALCO.
