Barrick Lumwana Donates $530K to Zambia to Fight Covid-19
Gold Major Barrick donated a $ 530,000 check to Zambia to help the country fight and curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
Barrick Zambia country manager Nathan Chishimba said Tuesday that the company has already taken extensive measures to protect workers and their families living in and around the Lumwana mine from the virus.
“As a committed partner of Zambia, we also want to contribute to the government’s fight against the pandemic. As a result, we are funding medical equipment worth $ 340,000 nationally, $ 100,000 for the northwestern province, and $ 90,000 for the Kalumbila district, “he said.
Barrick’s COO for Africa and the Middle East, Willick Jacobs, said in a statement that the company is working with Zambia’s national Covid-19 task force to translate its aid into emergency measures. Management in Zambia is working closely with local health authorities.
Zambia currently has 39 cases of Covid-19 and has reported one death. The pandemic has infected more than 1.4 million people worldwide and killed around 82,000 people.
