DRC mining industry produced 1.5 million tonnes of copper at the end of August 2022
The mining industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo produced 1 million 576924 tonnes of copper during the first 8 months of 2022 against 1 million 116232 tonnes in the same period in 2021, i.e. a production increase of 41%, inform Central Bank of Congo data taken from the October 2022 Digest of Statistical Information.
Of this volume of production recorded by the mining industry, Gécamines, which is the public company, produced only 2,217 tonnes of copper. This does not even represent 1% of the total volume of copper produced in the DRC.
With a monthly production of 197,115 tons of copper recorded during the first 8 months, the mining industry should easily, all other things being equal, exceed the milestone of 2 million tons of copper at the end of this year 2022.
Recall that the DRC produced in 2021 a volume of 1 million 797,836 tonnes of copper.
