Reporting to the Director HR, this role will focus on managing the Health & Wellness activities for First Quantum in Zambia and Mauritania, both on site and within the communities. The role will include engagement with senior management at the operational mines as well as staff in Lusaka, Ndola or as required with Exploration teams. In addition, the role will have a core function of managing the relationship with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
The incumbent will:
- Review the Health & Wellness strategy and consult on this within the mines and with broader stakeholders.
- Implement and monitor the Health and Wellness strategy.
- Develop key performance areas and related metrics to measure the effectiveness of interventions.
- Meet with site management to understand their health service priorities and as required feed these into the strategy.
- Develop and manage the Health and Wellness budget.
- Support the Health and Wellness Superintendent in managing the medical service provider.
- Maintain oversight of the Health and Wellness activities in Zambia.
- Manage any new Health contract negotiations, renewals and periodic reviews.
- Be the relationship manager between the First Quantum sites in Zambia and the Ministry of Health.
- Work with communities, the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to develop appropriate strategies to support the health of the communities in which First Quantum operates.
- Develop strategies to further the health and effectiveness of the workforce.
- Manage any Public Private Partnerships to ensure the most effective use of funding that brings the maximum benefit to the communities in which First Quantum operates, while serving sustainability principles and business interests.
Requirements:
- Qualifications:
- Post graduate health qualification, ideally a medical doctor, but other experienced health practitioners will be considered.
- Post graduate qualifications in occupational health or medicine from a recognised faculty.
- Post graduate qualifications in emergency medicine.
- Management qualifications are useful, but not essential.
- Experience
- At least 7 years’ experience in working in mining, energy or the infrastructure sector.
- Managing a multi-disciplinary health team.
- Establishing and maintaining effective health and wellness programs.
- Experience in sub- Saharan Africa, particularly Zambia.
- Proven experience in engaging and developing relationships with government authorities or NGO stakeholders.
