Introduction…

Kamoa Copper is currently recruiting for a qualified and experienced Engineer, TMM to join our team based in the DRC.
The position entails management of health & safety standards, and ensuring maintenance targets are met. It also includes ensuring the effective availability & utilization of trackless equipment, and ensuring that all equipment conforms to legal requirements.

Minimum Requirements…

Qualifications Required

  • Relevant Engineering Diploma or degree (Mechanical or Electrical)

Prefrred Qualifications

  • Post Graduate qualification in Engineering or professional registrations
  • Qualifications / training in management practices.

Minimum Skills Required

  • Thorough theoretical and practical understanding of trackless mining environment obtained via formal qualifications and sufficient practical experience.

Ideal Skills Required

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience of trackless mining environment from an international perspective obtained via advanced formal qualifications and practical experience in various mines in different countries.

Registration Required

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer will be advantageous.

Experience

  • At least 12 years’ experience in a trackless environment as an Engineer

Job Specification…

Safety 

  • Participate in the development of a base line risk assessment which identifies
    • The major hazards and associated risks relating to trackless mining activities.
    • The critical tasks and safe behaviors of operators and maintenance personnel.
  • The implimentation of Safe work procedures and standards in the workplace and testing the knowlege of employees with overinspections.
  • Participate in the scheduled standards commitee meetings

Maintenance

  • Execute the mines asset management strategy that includes:
  • Perforning maintenance in line with KCSA maintenance strategy for the trackless fleet (maintenance schedules, task lists, preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance).
  • Execute the procsses to support the computerized maintenance Management System. 
  • Use KPIs to measure the trackless fleet’s performance (availability, utilization. Mean time to repair, and mean time between failures.
  • Update the Life cycle model that includes component replacement forecasting for the trackless fleet (machine and component life expectancy and define life stage interventions i.e. rebuilds) as components are changed and/or repaired.

Procurement and Logistics

  • Identify critical spares and major components to be kept in stock on mine, surface and underground 
  • Give input to the procurement department on stock levels of spares, fast and slow movers, maintenance and breakdown spares allocation, and compilation service kits.
  • Consider availability of spares, lead times and criticality and use this information to determine strategic stock. 

Infrastructure

  • Operate and maintain infrastructure to support the trackless fleet that includes but not limited to:
  • Workshops for surface and underground (Cranes and ramps)
  • Refueling and lubrication
  • Wash bays with drains and silt traps
  • Surface and underground stores 
  • Waste management (Domestic, scrap, steel and hydrocarbons) 
  • Consider traffic management in the workshops, traveling and tramming ways for the fleet.

Cost

  • Categorize and itemize cost elements associated with the trackless mining activities. (Fuels and lubes, tires, repairable parts or comp, major components, electrical parts, pumps and valves, drilling consumables etc.). 
  • Benchmark and trend unit cost of itemized cost elements against the OEM predictive operating cost model. 
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement those in order to drive down unit costs. 
  • Allocate cost elements to assets to establish asset life cycle cost.
  • Forecast and cash flow fleet cost and anticipated budget for planned and unplanned maintenance, component replacements and rebuilds.

Controls 

  • Measure actual performance against pre-determined and approved objectives on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. 
  • Report on performance and performance gap interventions and progress on interventions on a weekly and monthly basis. 
  • Have alignment meetings with Mining and Engineering staff on a regular basis to align service delivery where and when required. 
  • Adapt objectives together with the Senior Engineering Manager and Head of Mining whenever required.

Management of staff

  • Identify staff skills gaps. 
  • Determine what needs to be done to address skills gaps. 
  • Discuss needs in terms of skills gaps with Snr. HR Manager and Human Resource Development Manager. 
  • Evaluate and ensure skills transfer implementation on continuous basis. 
  • Measure Expatriate staff on actual skills transfer. 
  • Ensure a good relationships and good team spirit amongst staff. 
  • Ensure clear and unambiguous communication aligned with approved strategies, Company rules and controls. 
  • Treat all staff in an objective, fair and consistent way. 
  • Support, encourage and develop staff as far as possible. 
  • Take responsibility for management of behaviour of own staff and ask Human Resources for support when required.
