Lobito Corridor to Reduce Oil Costs for Zimbabwe

The development of Angola’s Lobito Corridor is expected to lower oil costs for Zimbabwe, according to Angolan Ambassador Thando Madzvamuse.

Speaking on in Benguela after meeting with local government authorities, Madzvamuse highlighted the importance of the Lobito Corridor and its potential impact on Zimbabwe’s oil supply.

Madzvamuse noted that once the Lobito Corridor is fully operational, Zimbabwe will begin receiving oil from Angola, reducing reliance on longer supply routes from South Africa and Mozambique.

He emphasized that the corridor will help connect the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, allowing for more efficient transportation of oil via Zambia, which will significantly cut costs for Zimbabwe.

During his visit to Benguela, Madzvamuse also explored opportunities in mining, salt production, and fishing, expressing Zimbabwe’s interest in deeper socio-economic cooperation with Angola.

He praised Benguela for its strategic importance due to its well-developed transport infrastructure, including roads, railways, airports, and sea routes, which link sub-Saharan Africa to the rest of the world via the Atlantic Ocean.

The ambassador added that Zimbabwe seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation with Angola, particularly in agriculture, industry, and mining. He acknowledged Angola’s support during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and expressed a desire to solidify this longstanding partnership.

During his two-day visit, Madzvamuse met with Adilson Gonçalves, Benguela’s Vice-Governor for Technical and Infrastructure, and toured key sites such as the Lobito Port, railways, fisheries, and salt pans in Baía Farta.
