Cape Town – 2 February 2025 – On the eve of the highly anticipated Investing in Africa Mining Indaba 2025, under the theme “Future-proofing African Mining,Today!”, Hyve Events SA, the conference organisers, and the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) have signed a partnership agreement.
The agreement aims to elevate their relationship, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of Africa’s mining sector.
The official signing ceremony, held today, was led by the DMPR Director General, Mr Jacob Mbele. He was accompanied by the department’s Deputy Director-General Ms Ntokozo Nzimande.
“Formalizing our long-standing collaboration with Hyve Events SA through this structured partnership underscores our shared commitment to leveraging the Mining Indaba as a premier platform for collaboration, driving sustainable growth in Africa’s mining sector.” said Mr. Jacob Mbele, the DMPR’s Director General
“After nearly three decades of successful collaboration, the two parties have decided to formalise the relationship into a structured multi-year partnership with clear deliverables,” said Mr. Frans Baleni, Hyve Events SA Advisory Board Chairperson.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Baleni, who was joined by Julie Driscoll, Executive Vice President, New Next Gen and Mr Collen Dlamini, Head: Public Affairs described the agreement as a new chapter in the evolution of Mining Indaba.
“This will most certainly ensure that the conference continues to drive impactful discussions, shape policy, and create tangible opportunities for the mining industry across Africa,” he added.
One of the key elements of this enhanced partnership is that the DMPR, as the host government partner, will take up a seat on the Advisory Board Committee, contributing to the strategic vision of the conference.
To deepen socio-economic development, Hyve Events SA and DMPR will leverage Mining Indaba to promote local community participation, inclusivity, and social investment.
Furthermore, the partnership will foster stronger regional collaboration by supporting engagement with relevant government departments across Africa where bi- or multi-lateral mining programmes are in place.
Both Hyve Events SA and the DMPR have committed to enhancing Mining Indaba’s impact, ensuring that it remains a catalyst for growth and innovation in the mining sector.
“This strengthened partnership reaffirms Mining Indaba’s status as the leading platform for critical discussions on mining policy, investment, and sustainable development in Africa,” Mr. Baleni concluded.
