The Congolese Minister of Mines, Willy Kitobo opened, on Wednesday November 18, 2020 in Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga, the fourth edition of the Alternative Mining Indaba of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Held in the Pullman Grand Karavia room, this two-day meeting brought together experts from the province of Lualaba and that of Haut-Katanga as well as members of Congolese civil society in order to “reflect on the issue of mining royalties by the Decentralized Territorial Entities (ETD) ”.
In this opening ceremony, Jean-Claude Kanfwa Kimimba, vice-governor of Haut-Katanga said he was happy with the objectives of these meetings.
“Because it will be a question of reflecting on the strategies, can I invite you to reflect at the same time on the illustrious example of intrusion of covid-19, to reflect on the future of ETD without mining royalty. I am certainly starting from the thesis that today’s annuity must be able to prepare for the dying year of tomorrow, ” he declared.
For his part, Willy Kitobo, Minister of Mines, welcomed this initiative which makes it possible to reflect on the mechanisms of applicability of the mining code concerning issues related to the distribution of the mining royalty.
It is this Thursday, November 19, 2020 that will end this seminar where the recommendations likely to contribute to the mining sector in the DRC will come out.
