Zambia Showcases Mining and Energy Potential at Africa Down Under Conference
Zambia Positions Itself as “Gem of African Mining” at Africa Down Under 2025
Zambia took the spotlight at this year’s Africa Down Under Conference, where the Zambia Country Showcase, themed “Zambia: The Gem of African Mining”, drew a full house of global investors and industry stakeholders eager to explore the nation’s vast mining and energy opportunities.
Opening the session, Dr Hapenga Kabeta, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, delivered a keynote address underscoring Zambia’s immense mineral and energy potential. He extended an open invitation to the international community to visit and invest in the country’s fast-evolving mining sector.
Representing ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH), Board Chairperson Mr Phesto Musonda highlighted the company’s broad portfolio across mining and energy.
He emphasized ZCCM-IH’s proven expertise, international partnerships, and strong commitment to unlocking Zambia’s mineral wealth sustainably.
Mr Musonda also outlined significant opportunities in both greenfield and brownfield projects, with particular focus on copper, gold, and coal.
The showcase was officially opened by H.E. Dr Elias Munshya, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, who welcomed delegates and described Zambia as a nation of peace, visionary leadership, and economic stability — the essential foundations for successful investment.
Industry presentations provided further insights. Mr Mwelwa Manda, Country Manager at Prospect Resources, gave an update on the company’s exploration progress, while Mr Jeff Foster, Non-Executive Director at Beltz Mining Ltd, highlighted milestones in Beltz Mining’s growth journey.
The event concluded with a lively panel discussion featuring Mr Kakenenwa Muyangwa (CEO, ZCCM-IH), Mr Sam Hosack (Managing Director, Prospect Resources), Dr Hapenga Kabeta, and Ms Nkandu Beltz (CEO, Beltz Mining Ltd).
The panel examined Zambia’s mineral landscape, the progress of nationwide aerial geological surveys, and strategies to further enhance the country’s profile as a prime investment destination for both established operators and new entrants.
Delegates were also invited to attend the forthcoming Mining Insaka, promoted as a premier networking platform designed to unlock new opportunities and foster stronger collaboration within Zambia’s mining sector.
