Anglo Asian Mining Secures Trafigura Contract for Demirli Copper Mine Concentrates
Anglo Asian Mining Signs Trafigura Deal and Receives Licenses for Demirli Copper Mine Operations
Anglo Asian Mining has secured a sales contract with global commodities trader Trafigura for concentrates produced at its newly commissioned Demirli copper mine in Karabakh, Azerbaijan.
The contract includes a revolving prepayment facility of up to $25 million, with the first sale scheduled for mid-November 2025, the company confirmed.
Production Milestones and Copper Strategy
The Demirli mine, commissioned in July 2025, is forecast to produce 4,000 tonnes of copper concentrate this year, with production expected to rise to 15,000 tonnes annually from 2026 onwards.
Demirli is the second copper mine Anglo Asian brought online in 2025, following the Gilar underground deposit, which contains 54,000 tonnes of copper resources.
These developments are part of the company’s strategy to transition into a primarily copper producer by 2029, moving away from its nearly 20-year focus on gold, primarily from the Gedabek open pit mine.
Government Approvals and Operational Readiness
Anglo Asian has secured Azerbaijan government approval for the Trafigura contract and obtained all necessary licenses to operate the Demirli processing plant.
The company has also received a permit to use the existing tailings dam for 12 months, while a second tailings facility is under construction. The operating lease for the processing plant commenced on October 1, 2025.
“I am delighted that we have received all the relevant licenses to operate the plant and tailings dam at Demirli, an important milestone as the mine becomes fully operational and increasingly contributes to group production,” said CEO Reza Vaziri.
“The obtaining of all relevant licenses together with the Trafigura sales contract enables us to now commence copper concentrate sales and deliver value from Demirli,” he added.
The Trafigura contract and operational approvals mark a key step in Anglo Asian’s strategy to establish Demirli as a major contributor to the group’s copper output and long-term growth.
