President Hichilema Credits KCM Revival for Boosting Zambia’s Economic Recovery

President Hakainde Hichilema Highlights Mining Sector Recovery as Economic Reforms Boost Copperbelt Growth

President Hakainde Hichilema says the economic reforms implemented by his administration are beginning to yield positive results, marked by increased activity in the mining sector, particularly on the Copperbelt.

President Hichilema noted that the Copperbelt had previously experienced a decline in economic activity due to reduced operations in the mining industry.

However, he pointed to the resumption of operations by Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and other mining firms as clear evidence of the success of the government’s economic reform agenda.

He made these remarks during the 2026 National Delivery Day event held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, specifically at the Kenneth Kaunda Wing in Lusaka.

The Presidential Delivery Unit, which was established to monitor and evaluate the implementation of government projects and programmes, commemorated National Delivery Day to showcase progress achieved across various sectors.

“The Copperbelt Province has significantly improved with the full resumption of operations by mining companies,” President Hichilema said.

He also expressed appreciation to the private sector for partnering with the government in advancing the country’s development agenda.

During the event, KCM was represented by Allam Kasanda, Programmes Management Officer, and Henry Ngilazi, Acting Public Relations and Communications Manager.

Mr. Kasanda described the President’s recognition of KCM as a proud moment for the company.
“It confirmed that the work being carried out daily by mining operations is contributing to Zambia’s economic growth,” he said.

He added that KCM remains committed to supporting the revival of the Copperbelt economy and ensuring that surrounding communities benefit from the company’s initiatives.

The Presidential Delivery Unit is a specialised government entity responsible for tracking and supporting the implementation of priority projects and programmes, ensuring accountability and measurable results aligned with the national development agenda.

The unit was established in 2021 under President Hichilema’s administration to strengthen the execution of government initiatives.
