ARSP Pushes Mining Companies in Haut-Katanga to Prioritise Local Content and Job Creation
DR Congo’s ARSP Intensifies Mining Sector Compliance Drive to Boost Local Content and Employment
The Subcontracting Regulatory Authority in the Private Sector (ARSP) has intensified its compliance monitoring operations in Haut-Katanga Province as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local participation in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining sector.
During the mission, ARSP Director General Miguel Kashal visited several mining companies, including STL (Société du Terril de Lubumbashi), CDM, and MMG, as well as the facilities of various subcontracting firms operating in the region.
According to ARSP, the inspections focused on enforcing regulations aimed at promoting local content and ensuring that Congolese citizens benefit more directly from the country’s vast mineral wealth.
Miguel Kashal delivered a message aligned with President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision of increasing economic opportunities for Congolese nationals through mining sector reforms, particularly in the areas of employment creation and subcontracting.
He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between expatriates and Congolese professionals in building an inclusive subcontracting industry capable of driving sustainable economic growth.
Kashal also urged suppliers and service providers to honour and effectively execute contracts signed with major mining companies, stating that responsible subcontracting practices are essential to ensuring that the country’s natural resources generate wider benefits for the population.
The ARSP’s ongoing compliance campaign forms part of broader government efforts to improve transparency, strengthen local business participation, and maximise the economic impact of mining activities across the DRC.
