DRC Launches “BUANYA” Excellence Awards to Strengthen Mining Governance Through Young Professionals
DRC Ministry of Mines awards ENA graduates under BUANYA initiative to promote transparency and reform in mining sector
The Ministry of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo held the official awards ceremony for the “BUANYA” excellence competition on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hotel in Kinshasa.
Launched by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba, the initiative is designed to engage graduates of the National School of Administration (ENA) in strengthening governance, transparency, and performance across the country’s strategic mining sector.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Mines, representatives of affiliated institutions, jury members, ENA graduates, and invited guests. It featured the announcement of results and the awarding of prizes to the top-performing teams.
A total of 48 ENA graduates, divided into six teams, participated in the programme over several weeks.
They conducted research and policy analysis on key issues affecting the mining industry, including sector governance, resource traceability, anti-fraud measures, regulation of artisanal mining, geological exploration, equitable distribution of mining revenues, and strategies for new project development.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Mines emphasized the strategic importance of the DRC in the global energy transition, highlighting the country’s vast mineral wealth.
He noted that this position comes with the responsibility to ensure that natural resources are transformed into sustainable economic development, job creation, improved infrastructure, and better public services.
He also encouraged the winning participants to serve as ambassadors of integrity, excellence, and reform, stressing that future mining governance must be built on meritocracy, transparency, innovation, and accountability.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader development agenda under President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, coordinated by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, which prioritizes human capital development and improved governance in key economic sectors.
The ceremony concluded in a formal yet celebratory atmosphere, with a group photo marking the end of the programme.
The event is expected to pave the way for greater involvement of young public administrators in the ongoing transformation of the DRC’s mining sector.
