Overall Job Purpose
- The Tribologist will be responsible for the identification, delivery and control of oil analysis program, reports and ensure that customers are provided with the most appropriate and well-engineered tribology action recommendations.
Specific Job Responsibility
- Coordinate the oil laboratory in the most effective and efficient way to achieve best laboratory practices. Â
- Provide tribology recommendations on the basis of oil analysis
- Coordinate with maintenance teams on site for optimal services
- Develop a deep understanding of the customers’ current and emerging needs and ensuring that the offering is tailored to their needs.
- Participate with interdepartmental staff, at all levels of the organization, to create, obtain and support optimal maintenance practices and programs.
- Prepare and execute lubricant performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with lubricant developers to design tests that can be implemented within facility capabilities or through extensions of laboratory capabilities
- Report any laboratory equipment malfunctions and ensure the anomalies are attended on time without affecting the laboratory operation for extended period.
- Evaluate systems for data accuracy, and implement upgrades to minimize operator error.
- Provide technical guidance/work planning inputs to technicians and oil laboratory assayers
- Provide technical lead & critical review of new diesel and lubricants deliveries submitted to the lab for authentication.
- Ensure that the turnaround time of the oil analysis reports is with the stipulated time.
- Perform any other duties as instructed by the Chief Chemist

Experience required to perform in this job
- Minimum 3 years working as a tribologist with a sound technical knowledge of oil Lubrications and related analyses.
- Minimum 3 years’ appropriate experience in mechanical reliability experience.
- Proven experience managing conditional monitoring programs
- A high standard of computer literacy, Microsoft office, access, excel etc.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
