Sandvik: The majority of our mining vehicles will be electric by 2030

Electrification will pick up pace significantly in the coming years, says the company. Sweden-based mining solutions provider Sandvik has predicted that more than half of its underground mining equipment sales will be electric by 2030, and that it expects to have an electric offering covering all applications by 2022. Henrik Ager, president, Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions explained that electrification will be one of the biggest technological shifts the mining industry has seen for years, and that it will “significantly” pick up pace in the coming years. The company launched… Read More Here

Engineered Flow Aids resolve bulk material handling issues

In order to achieve controlled and consistent flow on conveyors handling large volumes of bulk material, transfer chutes and vessels must be designed not just to accommodate — but to actually facilitate — the flow of the cargo they will be handling. Unfortunately, because so many conditions can hamper effective cargo flow, engineering a conveyor and chutework that would handle every material situation is virtually impossible. Even modest changes in moisture content can cause adhesion to chute or vessel walls or agglomeration at low temperatures, especially if the belt is… Read More Here

Australia’s big miners race to deploy emissions-free trucks

As pressure builds on the carbon-intensive mining industry to slash emissions, leading Australian players are rushing to decarbonize their truck fleet using a range of options from hydrogen to battery-powered vehicles. Fortescue Metals Group in June designed and built a hydrogen-powered haul truck — “the first of its kind in the world,” said Julie Shuttleworth, CEO of green technology unit Fortescue Future Industries. Site tests are scheduled to begin by June 2023. “All you could see was slight puffs of pure steam,” Fortescue Metals Chairman Andrew Forrest said of his experience driving the truck during an August earnings call.… Read More Here

Optimising mill circuits for best efficiency impact

Decades of product evolution have given FLSmidth a range of solutions – including its LoadIQ smart sensor technology – both to supply and optimise all the technology in the grinding circuit. According to Terence Osborn, director – regional product line and key account management at FLSmidth, grinding typically accounts for about a 30% of the operational cost of a concentrator plant. Energy, liners and grinding media are among the many elements that make up this substantial cost. The milling circuit consumes about 50% of the concentrator plant’s power demand. “Any… Read More Here

Komatsu Testing Autonomous Water Truck Based on Mining Tech

Komatsu has been testing an autonomous water truck based on its  Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) already at work in the mining industry. The technology on the concept HD785-7 truck autonomously controls both the truck’s movement and water disbursement through the same platform. The company is eyeing a 2022 commercial debut for the machine, also in mining. Komatsu’s AHS enables the water truck to travel autonomously on a pre-defined haul road and work cooperatively with other autonomous trucks and staffed equipment. The system controls the amount of water disbursed, according to the vehicle speed… Read More Here
