Endeavour boss donates third of salary to fight covid-19

Canada’s Endeavor Mining announced Tuesday that its CEO Sébastien de Montessus will donate 30% of its base salary on  efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Other members of the management team have also committed to give part of their salaries for the next three months, the company said. Endeavor will pool the funds to receive a total $ 1 million donation, which, together with previous spending on community initiatives, will increase the miner’s total donation to $ 6 million. First Quantum to evacuate 800 people from Cobre

A subsidiary of Canada’s First Quantum Minerals (TSX: FM), has announced that it is working towards taking home some 800 people currently in preventive quarantine at its Cobre Panamá operation.  In a media statement, the miner explained that 2,000 people were stuck at the mining complex when it entered into lockdown following the detection of covid-19 infections among contractors and the death of one worker. Covid-19 wipes $282bn from the top 50 mining companies

The ongoing coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic has so far wiped $282bn from the value of the top 50 mining companies worldwide, according to new figures published by Mining.com.  The figures show a struggling industry overall, despite a resurgent gold price in recent months.
