In a bid to restructure its partnership with the African Continent, United States Vice-President Kamala Harris visited Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia during her nine-day African tour. During the two-day visit to Zambia, it was announced that the United States Government will provide more than US$505 million in bilateral assistance during the 2024 fiscal year, aimed at enhancing cooperation with the country. ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH) shareholders have approved the Kansanshi royalty conversion where the Company will now receive 3.1% of Kansanshi Mining Plc’s (Kansanshi) total revenue. The royalty revenue will be paid on a quarterly basis over the entire life of the mine of Kansanshi that currently extends to the year 2045. The approval was given at the Shareholder’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held in Kitwe on 31st March 2023. The Kansanshi and Kalumbila-Trident copper mines in Zambia were highly profitable in 2018, generating about US$3 billion in revenue. The Canadian-based First Quantum Minerals (FQM) group, which operates both mines, produced a total of 606,000 tonnes of copper that year, with the Zambian-based operations contributing about 80% of the total output.
