Eve Bazaïba calls for realistic compensation for DRC’s strategic minerals
The Democratic Republic of Congo takes an active part in the great climate conference (COP26) in Glasgow, United Kingdom. It was held, Monday, November 08, during these meetings, the event on the “mining sector of the DRC facing the energy transition”.
It was the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Eve Bazaïba who chaired this event in the presence of several guests from the world of politics, business, the mining sector and civil society.
Eve Bazaiba, who returned to the major challenges of the DRC’s participation in this COP26, was able to demonstrate the concept “DRC, Country Solution” to the climate crisis in the world.
Indeed, Eve Bazaïba, the world must understand that the efforts to protect and preserve the various environmental resources of the DRC must be compensated with a dose of realism.
“We are sending here in Glasgow a message to world leaders: to take their responsibilities and urgently implement priority means of investment in favor of countries like the DRC which not only owns a large part of the world’s humid forests but also also strategic minerals which are essential to the energy transition “, said Eve Bazaiba, optimistic about the legitimate demands of the DRC.
For his part, Dieudonné-Louis Tambwe of the Ministry of Mines revealed that the soil and subsoil of the DRC conceals an abundant and diverse range of mineral resources including non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals and industrial ores. It also produced a clear map of these minerals and their availability in terms of exploitation.
The side events on the stand will continue on the DRC stand until November 12, the date of the end of the COP26. On Tuesday 09 November the National Forest Fund (FFN) will exhibit on Congolese forest resources.
Note that the 26th United Nations conference on climate change is being held in Glasgow, Scotland, from October 31 to November 12, 2021. Five years after COP21 which resulted in the signing of the Paris Agreement, the 197 signatory parties must do everything possible during this COP26 to achieve the objective of maintaining warming at + 1.5 ° C.
