FQM CELEBRATES GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME COMPLETION

First Quantum Minerals’ subsidiary, FQM Trident, has celebrated the completion of its first Graduate Development Programme (GDP), recognising the achievements of eight young professionals who have successfully completed the two-year programme.

The GDP was launched in 2022 with the aim of nurturing fresh talent and building a robust pipeline for the future of Trident.

After a rigorous selection process, 12 exceptional individuals were chosen to embark on the programme.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, FQM Trident Limited, General Manager Gordon White, emphasised the importance of embracing a mindset of continuous learning, noting that the world is ever-evolving, particularly within the mining industry, which is dynamic and challenging.
“Take ownership of your career path.

Set clear goals, seek out mentors and advisors, and actively seek opportunities that align with your aspirations and values.

Remember, your career journey is ultimately in your hands.
Furthermore, cultivate a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Be reliable, and accountable, and demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond in your responsibilities while adding value to the organisation,” he said.

Mr White added that staying relevant necessitates a willingness to learn new skills, adapt to emerging technologies, and actively pursue opportunities for personal and professional development.

During the programme, the graduates underwent rotations across various departments within Trident, gaining hands-on experience and developing a comprehensive understanding of the mining industry.

They also participated in presentations and suggested areas of improvement, demonstrating their resilience, adaptability, and learning agility.

Speaking at the same event, FQM Trident Human Resource Manager Brighton Mwiinga, highlighted the importance of the programme in fostering innovation and building a talented workforce.

“This programme has been instrumental in bringing in young talent with fresh ideas,” he said.
We are confident that our graduates will continue to contribute significantly to the success of Trident and the FQM group in general,” Mr Mwiinga added.

FQM remains committed to investing in its people and developing a diverse and inclusive workforce.

The Graduate Development Programme is a testament to the company’s dedication to nurturing the future leaders of the mining industry.
