Head of Codelco’s Chuquicamata mine to leave company

The head of Codelco’s Chuquicamata copper mine, Christian Caviedes, will step down from his role on Friday, the state copper producer said in a filing on Thursday.

He will be replaced on an interim basis by the mine’s operations manager, Rene Galleguillos. Codelco is currently undertaking a $5 billion project to transform the open-pit mine into an underground operation.
