MMG Kinsevere Signs Social Responsibility Agreement with Local Communities Near Sokoroshi 2 Mine
On Friday, November 29, 2024, MMG Kinsevere signed a new agreement with five local communities impacted by the Sokoroshi 2 mine, located in the Bukanda sector of the Kipushi territory in Haut-Katanga, DRC.
The signing took place at the multipurpose hall in Bukanda, a facility built with mining royalty funds, in the presence of various officials.
Lucien Lumano, the Provincial Minister of Mines for Haut-Katanga, supervised the event and expressed his satisfaction, encouraging local communities to support MMG Kinsevere in the successful implementation of the project.
“The provincial government is committed to fostering a favorable business climate,” Minister Lumano said. “We commend both parties for negotiating in the interest of the Bukanda sector population. I urge MMG Kinsevere to ensure the proper execution of these specifications for the benefit of the local community, which must take good care of the resources provided to them.”
Several key projects are set to be implemented under the new agreement, including the construction of schools, drilling of drinking water wells, building health centers, and supporting local farmers. Lumano emphasized that these projects will have a lasting impact on the community, with contributions from local stakeholders and the creation of vital infrastructure, such as the newly built road connecting Sokoroshi to Kinsevere.
Sebastien Mwape Kabinda, chief of the Bukanda sector, expressed his gratitude to MMG Kinsevere for its continued efforts. “I appreciate MMG’s commitment to the development of our communities,” he said. “The Bukanda sector has witnessed the positive impact of their work, and this new agreement further supports their dedication to complying with mining regulations and improving the lives of local residents.”
In 2021, MMG Kinsevere was one of the first mining companies in the region to sign a $6 million agreement benefiting 26 villages around the Kinsevere mine.
This new agreement with the Shindaika communities marks MMG’s second major commitment to community development, reinforcing its ongoing support for local populations.
