US$300 Million Kafue Multi-Facility Economic Zone Approaches Completion
Zambia’s US$300 Million Kafue Economic Zone Nears Operation, Set to Drive Manufacturing and Job Creation
A US$300 million multi-facility economic zone in Kafue, Zambia, is nearing completion and is expected to begin operations soon, marking a major milestone in the country’s industrial development ambitions.
The Golden Baobab Multi-Facility Economic Zone has already attracted a number of companies and investors, with some businesses beginning to install machinery and prepare for commercial operations.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to become one of Zambia’s largest industrial investment hubs.
Construction of the economic zone began in September 2025, and rapid progress has positioned the facility to start contributing to economic activity within a short period. The development is designed to host a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, agro-processing, energy and other value-added sectors.
During an inspection of the project, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Finance and Investment Mr Siakalenge said the development reflects government efforts to strengthen investor confidence, expand industrial capacity and create employment opportunities.
The economic zone is expected to support Zambia’s economic diversification strategy by encouraging local production and reducing reliance on imported goods.
It will provide space for businesses to establish operations, increase manufacturing output and develop new supply chains.
One of the anticipated benefits is increased competition in key sectors such as agricultural inputs.
The presence of companies producing goods and services locally could help reduce costs for farmers and strengthen the country’s agricultural value chain.
The Golden Baobab Economic Zone will accommodate a diverse mix of industries, creating opportunities for investment, skills development and job creation.
Its location in Kafue also strengthens the area’s role as an important industrial corridor due to its proximity to major transport routes and Lusaka’s commercial market.
With the completion of the project approaching, Kafue is positioning itself once again as one of Zambia’s leading industrial centres, supporting the country’s vision of increased manufacturing, private sector growth and sustainable economic development.
