President Hichilema Highlights Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway Progress Under PPP Model
Zambia President Says US$650 Million Lusaka–Ndola Road Project Advances Without Government Debt Burden
President Hakainde Hichilema has highlighted progress on the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway, saying the project is being delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement without placing a direct financial burden on the Zambian government.
The President said the approximately US$650 million project represents a different financing approach from previous plans, which he claimed would have required government funding exceeding US$1 billion.
Speaking during a public engagement at 10 Miles, President Hichilema said construction of the dual carriageway is progressing well and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic growth.
The Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway is a key transport corridor linking Zambia’s capital city to the Copperbelt Province, one of the country’s most important mining and industrial regions.
The project is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel times, and enhance trade and logistics efficiency.
During his address, President Hichilema also called on citizens to support the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in the upcoming general election, saying continued leadership would ensure the completion of ongoing development projects.
He urged voters to avoid returning to what he described as periods of political instability and economic challenges, while defending his government’s record on infrastructure development and economic reforms.
The President also questioned opposition parties’ calls for political change, arguing that some opposition leaders support policies and programmes currently being implemented by his administration.
During his visit, President Hichilema directed that four volunteer nurses who had gathered along the roadside be considered for recruitment into the public health service.
Later in the day, the President held a rally in Chibombo District, Central Province, where he received support from residents who gathered along the Great North Road.
