BHP has reported lower volumes at Olympic Dam due to a planned smelter maintenance campaign, completed in January 2022. This was partially offset by higher volumes at Antamina. Escondida copper production decreased by 15% to 488 000 t due to concentrator feed grade decline, despite a record performance for material mined. Glencore to build UK battery recycling plant

Switzerland-based mining company Glencore has entered a joint venture with a Britain-based investor in battery cell technologies and research and development, Britishvolt, to build a battery recycling system in the UK, including a new plant. The agreement, according to Glencore, would develop a “world-leading ecosystem” for battery recycling in the UK. The copper price fell on Thursday as poor risk sentiment driven by weak corporate earnings pushed the dollar up. Glencore’s output falls amid COVID Challenges

Switzerland-based mining company Glencore saw the production of most of its minerals fall year-on-year (YoY) in 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to affect operations. The company saw falls in copper, zinc, lead, nickel, gold and silver production. Concentrator hot commissioning to begin in April 2022, ending previous forecast of Q2 2022 and several months before the initial schedule. The statistical yearbook of the Democratic Republic of Congo (2020 edition) informed that between 2015 and 2019, the country produced only 1,243.02 million tons of Wolframite. During the period under review, exports of this raw material to international markets amounted to 929.47 tons in four (4) years, note the data provided by the Ministry of Mines.
