Finnish mining engineering firm Metso Outotec has launched a compact new electrowinning gold recovery solution called the Elution and Goldroom plant. The new plant offers a standardised solution for the forming of concentrated eluate, said the company. Rio Tinto and Komastu have joined forces to accelerate zero-emission mining haulage vehicles – and the duo are looking at hydrogen as a potential technology. Along with its partnership on haulage solutions developments, it was also announced today (August 2) that Rio Tinto is one of the first companies to join Komatsu’s newly launched Greenhouse Gas Alliance. Rio Tinto has approved a $108 million investment in underground development to enable early orebody access and undertake orebody characterisation studies for underground mining at the Kennecott copper operations in the US located in Utah near SaltLakeCity. The mine is also commonly known as BinghamCanyon. Record orders received, high revenue growth and improved profitability were all part of Epiroc’s June quarter financial results as the OEM also made significant headway on its diesel-to-battery-electric retrofit plan to help electrify the mining sector.
