Official data from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development shows that Zambia’s annual cobalt production in 2022 has reached 251 tons, representing a 2% increase from the 247 tons produced in 2021. The country’s cobalt production had previously decreased after the collapse of international prices. Starting May 1st, 2023, low-income households consuming 100 units or less per month will benefit from a reduction in electricity tariffs, according to the Energy Regulation Board (ERB). Previously, these households would pay K47 for 100 units, but with this new adjustment, their expenditure will decrease to K40.
