Kansanshi Mining Plc Hosts Eight mining companies for a Mine Rescue Training

Kansanshi Mining Plc on Friday 11th November 2022 hosted eight mining companies namely Konkola Copper Mines, Mopani, NFCA, Lubambe Copper Mines, Nkana, Mabiza, Mufulira, and Luanshya to a mine rescue training which aimed at improving mine rescue response at the mine pit has Kansanshi is in the process of putting up a team together for the underground decline project.
All Mines Rescue Teams in Zambia are trained through the Zambian Chamber of Mines, and Training is conducted on a quarterly basis throughout the year (4 x per year). Training is conducted at various nominated mines – with the intention for each mine that hosts to use the opportunity to train their management in emergency control requirements. Miners spent an hour underground.
Although mine rescue response gear, training, and techniques have been improved over the past century, you can never be too prepared for an emergency. Miners need the tools to survive during a disaster. To this end, underground mine safety teams can help to improve mine rescue response by clearly identifying escape routes, placing rescue stations in key locations, and by ensuring there is adequate ventilation.
The main things that the teams were tested are; Map reading, Emergency procedure adherence, Leadership and teamwork, and physical fitness and endurance. The training was coordinated by Eric Cousins Zambia Mine Rescue executive was in attendance.
Training consists of the following scenario as a brief to the Mine Rescue Teams per 4-team batch
Workers were leaving the declined work areas at 05:00 this morning at end of the shift
At this time our electrical sub-station exploded with fire and there is no power underground
Workers rushed to the surface where there was some confusion due to the nature of the event
We tried to enter the mine but found our access filled with smoke
We have identified three missing workers and need Mine Rescue to go and rescue them
And Kansanshi Mine Management thanked the mine rescue teams for taking their time, commitment and for showcasing their skills and their passion for saving people’s lives.
