The DRC’s National Order of Civil Engineers “ONICIV” is committed to training its members on project management in the PMI standard
The National Order of Civil Engineers (ONICIV) organized a conference-debate on Saturday August 27 on the theme: “Project management in the PMI standard, an asset for an engineer”. This conference debate is part of supporting the personal development of its members in the field of project management.
“The role of the National Order of Civil Engineers is to support the personal development of its members, this kind of activity allows us to update our members, to add what is missing to allow them to be efficient. in society and in carrying out projects. Most engineers, we are called upon to manage large projects. This is why engineers must be equipped, the PMI with its certifications nevertheless gives a range of training courses to engineers to to be able to equip them”, explained Dieu-Merci Yumba, Deputy Secretary General of ONICIV.
The president of the Project Management Institute (PMI), for his part, insisted on the need for knowledge of project management in the work of engineers.
“There is a serious project management problem. This is why our projects are delivered late, either beyond the budget or they are not even delivered. We should make professionals and students aware of the need for knowledge of project management Today, it was mainly civil engineers, they must acquire skills in project management to be able tomorrow to better deliver all the initiatives in which they will be involved. results that our organizations are expecting first of all is the rapprochement between ONICIV and PMI DRC. We hope to set up a slightly more sustained program of joint activities for our members and professionals in the DRC”, declared Danny Byabene, President of PMI.
It should be noted that among the speakers, there were in particular the Director General of the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT) and the President of the National Order of Civil Engineers (ONICIV) Médard Ilunga and José Maholo, one of the directors of the national electricity company (SNEL). One of the roles of ONICIV is to support the personal development of its members.
