Introduction

Kamao Copper (DRC) is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Intermediate Life Support to join our dynamic team. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To render Intermediate Life Support to Patients. To perform Fire and Rescue duties.

Job description

  • To respond to any emergency if requested and administer intermediate life support treatment to any patient requiring as per the HPCSA regulations.
  • Assist any BLS practitioner when ILS backup is need.
  • Immediately call for backup should the condition of the patient requires treatment that exceeds your scope of practice and competency.
  • Do a thorough inventory on Ambulance, Rescue and Fire Engine and equipment with every shift change and report any defects or shortcomings to the Emergency Coordinator.
  • Complete Patient Report Form accurately for every patient treated and signs the PRF including your HPCSA Registration number.
  • Audit all Patient Report Forms for correctness before handing it to the Emergency Coordinator.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of all vehicles and equipment on a daily basis and a thorough cleaning session once a week.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the station on a daily basis.
  • Ensure proper and adequate stock control and replacement immediately after a call if possible.
  • Assist with first aid training if required.
  • Submit to involvement in community projects if required.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by Emergency Coordinator without delay or question.
  • Support maintenance of ISO 9001:2008 standard.

Health and Safety

  • Adhere to all safety measures and regulations at all times.
  • Ensure that you comply with Compensation for Occupational Injuries & Diseases Act requirements and report all injuries sustained on duty immediately to the Emergency Coordinator.
  • Ensure that all public areas in the Emergency Station premises are kept neat and tidy at all times.
  • Ensure that you report any unusual occurrence of company importance, whilst on duty, to Emergency Coordinator immediately.

Patient Care

  • Adhere fully to all HPCSA protocols.
  • Always introduce yourself to all patients.
  • Keep family members informed about patient treatment.
  • Hand all patients over to hospital staff as per protocol.
  • Wear protective gloves when treating or transporting all patients.

Equipment

  • Ensure that equipment is checked, used, cleaned, re-stocked and stored according to company policy.
  • Maintain inventory of all equipment.
  • Maintain service record on all equipment.
  • Deliver equipment for service/repair to the approved service agent.
  • Ensure sufficient care is taken to prevent loss of equipment, and report all losses to management; report stolen company equipment to the SAPS immediately, and submit an incident report to management.
  • Ensure that all rechargeable equipment is kept serviceable.
  • Recommend changes to and acquisition of new equipment.
  • Ensure that alkaline batteries are replaced and stocked.
  • Maintain rechargeable batteries.
  • Update contents check lists accordingly.
  • Store in an orderly manner all equipment operating manuals and documentation

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED/

  • Fire Fighter 1 Qualification
  • Rope Rescue 1 AND 2
  • Ambulance Emergency Assistant Certificate.
  • Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP
  • Advanced driver training. ( Will be advantageous)

Preferred qualifications

  • Fire Fighting 1 and 2
  • Hazmat Technician
  • Mine Rescue service Training / Experience
  • Advanced Medical Rescue ( AMR – 12 Rescue Modules)

REGISTRATION/ACCRÉDITATIONS

  • Registration with the a health professional body as an I.L.S. Practitioner

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of 5 Years – Emergency Medical Services experience

PERSONAL COMPETENCIES/CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED/ COMPÉTENCES

  • Ability to work under stressful pressured conditions and shifts.
  • Above average adaptability to varying and unpredictable circumstances.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good emotional intelligence (EQ)
