DRC Governor Fifi Masuka Saini Visits Tenke Fungurume Mining to Explore Copper and Cobalt Production Technology

The Governor of Lualaba Province, Fifi Masuka Saini, has visited the industrial facilities of Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) in Fungurume to gain firsthand insight into the company’s copper and cobalt production operations.

The visit took place on Thursday, 13 August, during the governor’s tour of the Fungurume area, where she was accompanied by a provincial delegation.

During her visit to TFM, Masuka Saini was briefed on the company’s mining and processing operations, with particular attention given to the technologies used in the production of copper and cobalt.

The delegation also toured TFM’s 30K plant, described as one of the company’s key processing facilities and a major component of its operational technology.

The visit was led by Aldry Luzanga, TFM’s Director of Human Resources and Head of Reforms, who provided the delegation with an overview of the company’s production processes and operations.

Beyond the technical aspects of mining and processing, the visit also highlighted TFM’s broader contribution to the economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The company is one of the major mining operators in Lualaba, a province that remains central to the DRC’s copper and cobalt industry.

Its operations contribute to employment and economic activity in the province, while its production of copper and cobalt supports the country’s position in global mineral supply chains.

For Lualaba, where mining remains a major driver of economic activity, understanding the technology, infrastructure and processes behind mineral production is increasingly important as the province seeks to strengthen local value creation and industrial development.

The visit also provided an opportunity for provincial authorities to gain a closer understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with large-scale mining operations and their role in the province’s economic development.

TFM has previously highlighted its contribution to employment, public revenues and community development in Lualaba.

The company has also participated in the Katanga Business Meeting, where it has presented its production performance and contributions to fiscal and community development.

Masuka Saini’s visit to the TFM facilities therefore offered a practical look at the technological processes underpinning one of the region’s major copper and cobalt operations, while reinforcing the importance of collaboration between provincial authorities and mining companies in advancing Lualaba’s industrial and economic development.
