Louis Watum Mobilises ENA Graduates Around Mining Sector Reforms
DRC Mines Ministry Engages ENA Graduates on Mining Governance Reforms and Sector Development
Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba on Wednesday met with graduates of the National School of Administration (ENA) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Mines and public administration officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The meeting formed part of a broader strategic reflection on key priorities facing the country’s mining sector, with discussions centered on governance reforms, transparency and traceability in mineral resource management, and measures to combat fraud.
Participants also examined issues related to the regulation of artisanal mining, the fair redistribution of mining revenues to local communities and the promotion of Congolese expertise, particularly among local geologists and technical professionals.
The discussions further highlighted the development of new mining projects across several regions of the country, including the MIFOR iron ore project in the Greater Orientale region, copper development initiatives in Greater Kasai and manganese projects in Kongo Central.
Following the meeting, multidisciplinary working groups were established and tasked with developing concrete reform proposals focused on priority areas within the mining sector.
The proposals are expected to address legal, institutional and governance challenges in line with the development agenda of President Félix Tshisekedi and under the coordination of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka.
The initiative will take the form of a competitive reform programme, with teams given two weeks to submit their recommendations. Organisers said all participants would receive recognition, while the best-performing team would receive special distinction.
According to the Ministry of Mines, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a more transparent, inclusive and development-oriented mining sector capable of delivering greater benefits to the Congolese population.
