The Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining sector is entering a new era of reform, beginning at its administrative core.
Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba signaled the government’s commitment to change with a hands-on visit to the General Secretariat for Mines on Wednesday.
The objective was clear: see operations firsthand, understand challenges without filters, and initiate a dynamic of efficiency and results-driven reform.
From his arrival, the atmosphere was electric. Greeted enthusiastically by mobilized staff, Minister Watum Kabamba set the tone immediately, emphasizing rigor, transparency, and accountability. In a direct and candid discussion with a union delegation, he scrutinized working conditions, resource shortages, and structural inertia.
The Minister listened attentively, asked probing questions, and recorded observations a frank and uncompromising approach aimed at identifying areas for immediate improvement.
Accompanied by Secretary-General Jacques Ramazani, the Minister conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities, office by office and department by department.

Addressing staff, he acknowledged their dedication, recognized ongoing difficulties, and reassured employees that their concerns would be considered within the framework of the vision championed by President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and coordinated by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka.
